Welcome to Arbor Kiwi.
Your Vegetation Management Professionals for the Greater Waikato

Why Choose Arbor Kiwi

Straight talk, sharp work, and trees treated with respect.

There's no shortage of people with a chainsaw and a ute, but a tree on your property is too close to your home and too hard to put back to leave to chance. We do this properly: trained, equipped, and careful with the things around your trees as much as the trees themselves.

What you'll notice first is the honesty. We'll tell you what your trees actually need, not what costs the most, and if a tree can be saved with a prune instead of removed, we'll say so. Pricing is clear and up front, with no surprises tacked on at the end. When we bring in a specialist for part of the job, you'll know exactly who's doing what and why.

And when we're done, you'd hardly know we'd been there, except for the work itself. Trees balanced, hedges tidy, sites cleared, and every last bit of mess cleaned up before we leave. Professional from the first phone call to the final sweep.

That's the whole idea behind Arbor Kiwi: good advice, good work, and people you can trust on your place.

WHAT WE DO

Big or small, we've got it covered.

Whatever's going on with your trees, chances are we've sorted something like it before. We cover the full range of vegetation work across the Waikato, from tidying up an overgrown hedge to removing large trees off tight sites and powerlines. Some jobs are a quick prune to let more light in, others are three days of careful rigging over a house. Either way, you get the same honest advice up front, a clear fixed quote, and a site left cleaner than we found it.

Tree Pruning

That tree was one of the reasons you loved the place, but lately it's started growing over the place instead. The canopy's crept low and wide, the inside's turned dense and tangled, and limbs are reaching across the fence and brushing the gutters. Rooms that used to catch the afternoon light now sit in shade, leaves keep piling up where they shouldn't, and the whole thing's looking a little one-sided. Left to its own devices, it only gets heavier and more lopsided from here.

Good pruning brings it back into balance. We lift the canopy to let the light back in, take weight off the limbs that have overreached, contain growth that's pushing past your boundary, and clear out the deadwood and congestion so the tree can breathe. You're left with a healthier, better-balanced tree that sits properly back from the house — and looks the way it's meant to. No upselling, no scare tactics: just honest advice and tidy, professional work.

Tree Removal

Sometimes a tree has simply reached the end of the road. It might be dead or declining, diseased beyond saving, or just the wrong tree in the wrong spot, outgrowing its space, lifting the paving, or crowding out everything around it. Whatever the reason, a tree that needs to go doesn't get easier to deal with by waiting, and trying to tackle it yourself is how good weekends turn into expensive ones.

We take it down properly. We'll give you a straight assessment first and if the tree can be saved with pruning instead, we'll tell you, because removing a tree you didn't need to lose helps nobody. When removal genuinely is the right call, we handle it safely and cleanly: sectioned down with the right gear, no damage to what's around it, and the site left tidy when we leave. Honest advice, clear pricing, and a job done right.

Hedges & Shelter Belts

A good hedge or shelter belt earns its keep. Privacy, shelter, a clean green line along the boundary, but left a season too long, it starts running the show. The sides bush out, the top climbs higher than you ever meant it to, and before you know it it's past the reach of standard trimmers and well beyond a quick tidy-up. The taller and wider it gets, the bigger the job becomes, and the harder it is to claw back.

We bring it back under control. We'll reduce the height to something genuinely manageable, trim the sides back to a clean, even line, and shape it so it stays easy to maintain from here on. Whether it's a tidy garden hedge or a shelter belt that's outgrown the gear, we've got the equipment and the access to get it done safely and leave it looking sharp. Straightforward advice, no fuss, and a tidy finish every time.

Stump Grinding

You've had the tree taken down, but the stump's still sitting there. It's a trip hazard, a mower's worst enemy, and a stubborn reminder of what used to be. Left in the ground it doesn't just look unfinished; it can sprout fresh growth, draw pests, and quietly take up space you'd rather be using. A tree's not really gone until the stump is too.

We sort that last piece for you. The stump gets ground out below ground level so the job's properly finished and the area can be reinstated completely, right back to turf, as if the tree was never there. One less stump, one finished section of garden, and nothing left to mow around.

Site Clearing

A section full of trees, scrub, and old stumps is a project that hasn't started yet. Maybe there's a new build waiting to go in and the ground needs to be clear before civil work can begin or maybe a block's just gotten away on you, overgrown to the point where you can't see the potential under all the green. Either way, nothing else can happen until it's cleared, and every week it sits is a week the job stays parked.

We clear the lot. Trees, stumps, scrub, the whole site taken down, ground out, and tidied up so it's ready for the next stage, whether that's diggers and foundations or just a clean slate to build your plans on. We'll walk the site with you first, give you a straight rundown of what's involved and what it'll cost, and get it done safely and cleanly. You're left with open, workable ground and a clear path forward.

MEET RHYS

Led by the owner, always

The bloke behind Arbor Kiwi.

I've spent 13 years in vegetation management, and after years working under the corporate model, I started Arbor Kiwi to do things my own way. I wanted to give people, homeowners, farmers, lifestyle blocks and commercial clients alike, a genuinely kiwi-owned company that's capable of the big, tricky jobs, where you deal with the bloke actually doing the work instead of a salesman in a suit.

That's still how I run it. I turn up when I say I will, lay out all your options and levels of service clearly, and give honest advice up front, including when a tree's better pruned than pulled out. I reckon there's a solution to every problem, not just a problem to point at, and I carry that onto every site.

Behind the friendly approach is serious grounding. I hold advanced NZ qualifications in arboriculture, I'm a certified utility arborist and non-production faller, and I'm fully insured. So whether it's a hedge that's gotten away or a large tree over a power-line, the job's done safely, with controlled rigging and low-impact gear to keep your lawns, gardens and structures protected. And I always leave the site cleaner than I found it.

Give me a call. You'll get a straight answer, a fair fixed quote, and someone who treats your place like his own.

Talk straight to the bloke doing the work.

That tree, hedge, or overgrown block isn't going to sort itself, and the longer it sits on the to-do list, the bigger the job tends to get and the more it plays on your mind.
Chasing quotes can be half the hassle too: messages that go nowhere, no-shows, and salesmen talking up work you didn't ask for.

You won't get that here. Give me a call and you'll talk straight to me, the bloke who'll actually be doing the work, and I aim to get back to any missed call within 2 hours.
We'll find a time that suits, including early or late around your day, and I'll give you honest advice and a clear fixed quote with no surprises.

Tell me a bit about what you're after and I'll be in touch.
